Hamilton Spectator
This month’s issue of Canadian Architect featured a west Hamilton home on its cover.
Hambly House, located at 170 Longwood Rd. N., was chosen for its art moderne features, including a white stucco-style exterior, rounded corners, and porthole windows.
The 1939-era house, which has been on the city’s Cultural Heritage Register since 2011, has recently had extensive renovations done by local firms DPAI and Toms + McNally Design.
The work included exterior repair work, demolishing interior walls to open up the main floor space, replacing the stucco exterior with synthetic EIFS, and adding a second-storey that’s largely comprised of glazing.
A number of original features, including rose-and-thistle plasterwork, the surround on the front door, and a rustic log-cabin-style basement were maintained.
