Earth Day Celebrations!
Today marks the 52nd Earth Day! Earth Day includes a variety of events organized locally and internationally. The official theme of this year’s Earth Day is “Invest In Our Planet.”
Here are some events you can get involved in this Earth Day in the GTA.
Earth Day Market
Date: April 23rd @ 11:00 a.m.
Location: Gage Park, 1000 Main St. E.
Celebrate Earth Day at the Earth Day Market in Gage Park Saturday, April 23rd from 11 am-3 pm. There will be vendors, food trucks, and more!
McMaster Earth Day Tree Planting
Date: April 22nd @ 11:00 a.m.
Location: 1211 Wilson St. East
Join community members and McMaster University students in planting 250 trees today.
The McMaster Centre for Climate Change, Nature at McMaster, the Academic Sustainability Programs Office, and Trees for Hamilton have worked together to create a Carbon Sink Forest. This forest sequesters carbon by planting trees, which helps to mitigate climate change.
Pizza, prizes, and shovels will be provided, but be sure to wear closed-toed shoes.
Action on Climate Earth Day Event
Date: April 23rd @ 10:00 a.m.
Location: Central Arena, Burlington
The City of Burlington, Burlington Hydro, and Plug’n Drive are hosting Earth Day activities in the parking lot at Central Arena from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
You can register to receive a free four-to-five-foot tree as the city aims to give away 200 trees.
The city and Burlington Hydro are sponsoring Plug’n Drive’s Mobile EV Education Trailer for four weeks at the arena starting April 23 until May 20. You can talk with experts and owners about driving an electric vehicle.
Earth Day Celebration – Willow Park
Date: April 23rd @ 1:30 p.m.
Location: Willow Park Ecology Centre, Guelph
Everyone and anyone is welcome to join by spending the day giving back to the planet through activities such as gardening and trails renewal, park clean-up, habitat care, and a fun nature-themed scavenger hunt!
Refreshments and gardening gloves are provided.
This event is suitable for student volunteer hours.
Yours to Protect – Earth Day Meetup and Rally!
Date: April 24th @ 1:00 p.m.
Location: John C. Pallett Park, Mississauga
Join Sustainable Mississauga and Shade of Miti, two grassroots groups in your city, for an afternoon of knowledge-sharing, urban greening, and taking action for a more sustainable community! Please note that there is limited parking – walking, biking, and transit to the site are encouraged!
Green Up Tree Planting Event
Date: April 30th @ 9:30 a.m.
Location: Millcroft Park, Burlington
Open to Burlington residents, students, groups, business employees, while space remains, this tree-ific event is part of our dual-component Community Clean Up Green Up event.
Hosted by BurlingtonGreen and the City of Burlington Forestry Department, the Green Up tree planting component provides an important (and fun) opportunity for the community to come together to plant trees to beautify the city while strengthening local biodiversity and helping to address climate change here at home.
Earth Day Forest Meditation
Date: April 23rd @ 10:00 a.m.
Location: Silver Creek Conservation Area, Halton Hills
Celebrate Earth Day with us! Come saunter through Silvercreek Conservation Area and learn some nature-inspired meditation practices to facilitate a connection to yourself and the natural world.
Forest Meditation is a unique experience that blends forest bathing, mindfulness, and philosophy of interconnectedness. Prepare to feel relaxed and energized at the same time. All are welcome, no experience necessary.
