The city is warning residents to watch out for contractors falsely claiming to be working with the city.
A private contractor recently asked a Nash Road business owner to pay for a driveway replacement, claiming the work was required as part of a city road construction project.
The contractor asked for an upfront deposit.
The city is not affiliated with the contractor and the Nash Road construction project finished last year, according to a city release warning residents not to fall for the scam.
The release said the city always delivers a notice on city letterhead to any homeowner who will be affected by municipal construction projects.
Any property owner who has concerns about unsolicited requests from contractors claiming to work with the city can call the municipal construction department at 905-546-4313.
