The days are getting longer and warmer which provides a good environment to finish up any exterior projects and also spruce up the outside of your home!
Updating the curb appeal for your home doesn’t mean you have to spend the big bucks. There are many simple exterior upgrades you can complete for a small cost and even for free!
Here are 5 ways you can update the curb appeal of your house to make your neighbours envious!
Spruce up your Front Door!
An important tactic among home sellers is to put a fresh coat of paint on the front door. However, we recommend going a step further and completely changing the colour of your front door. Adding a colour that coordinates with the rest of the exterior is important but also choosing a colour that pops and stands out is crucial.
If your white or grey home has black shutters then we recommend painting your door a nice red or if you have a light brown brick home, we recommend going with a fun turquoise door.
Not only is the paint colour important but adding a colour coordinated front porch planters or a beautiful door wreath really makes the home look inviting and cheerful. You can make a stunning wreath at home to cut down costs and can DIY your own planter boxes to match the exterior of your home.
Bonus Tip: Add new house numbers near your door. Large, brass numbers, matte black numbers, or white numbers will look fresh beside your bright and inviting door front.
Lawn Care and Maintenence
Basic lawn care goes a long way. Making sure your lawn is mowed and watered regularly is important. Also, work along the edge of the driveway and walkway with a trimmer to make sure the grass looks even from all angles.
Getting rid of weeds and taking out any unwanted things like twigs, leaves, and garbage is important for the health of the lawn and for the curb appeal to be effective.
Trim your bushes and attend to any trees that need pruning. Along with this, make sure your flower bends are turned with dark soil or fresh mulch. Add some annual flowers to add a pop of colour!

After a long winter, the exterior of a home has dirt and grime build-up, especially on the exterior windows. Cleaning all of the exterior faces of the windows can add a nice shine to the home and shows other that you care about the appearance of your house.
Start with removing outside cobwebs and debris. Wipe down interior sills and remove screens. Wash screens or simply rinse them with your garden hose and allow them to dry in the sun.
There are lots of products available for cleaning class and making it look sparkling clean. We do recommend power washing the exterior and then going in with a soft rag and cleaning product to scrub the windows. don’t forget to rinse!
Bonus Tip: Using a hot water and vinegar solution on the interior windows will help make the exterior that more shiny and clean!
Make it Cozy!
Create a beautiful outdoor living space on your front porch or front lawn. Making your home look inviting and cozy is the ultimate curb appeal goal!
This is where furniture, accessories, and storytelling come into play. If your front entrance can accommodate a chair and a small table or bench, add them and follow that up with a colourful lantern, a plant, and bright accommodating cushions. Line your steps with seasonal flowers in pots or planters, and add some fun garden decorations to your front garden beds.

Check Your Roof
Don’t forget to check your roof! During the fall and winter months, your gutters may have gotten clogged with fallen leaves and seeds. you may even have small trees growing along the edge of your home. Safely clean your gutters.
If there’s any debris on your roof, now is also a great time to remove it. If you have a chimney check that as well and see if any maintenance needs to be done on it.
